PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Phillies fell to the Miami Marlins 7-4 in embarrassing fashion on Thursday night in South Philadelphia.

The Phils dropped the first of a four game series with the fish in one of the worst ways possible. Whether it was the blown leads, stupid errors, or failed outings from some of the club's best pitchers, absolutely nothing could go right for the Phillies today after the sixth inning. To cap it all off, the team saw both Kyle Schwarber (Groin) and Bryce Harper (Hamstring) leave the game with injuries.

Starting off the game, the offense was clicking as usual - Bryce Harper doubled (20) to right field and scored Trea Turner to make it 1-0 Phillies in the bottom of the first.

Rafael Marchán soon followed him up with a home run (2) making the score 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth. In the fifth, Edmundo Sosa capped off the Phils' run with an RBI single to score Trea Turner and bring the score to 3-0 Phillies. Though after that, it was all Miami.

Even though Zack Wheeler was dealing through the first few innings, as the top of the seventh inning rolled around the Marlins took their shot and never looked back.

After getting two runners on with 111 pitches, Wheeler was lifted for Matt Strahm. The lefty came in, walked a guy on a brutal call by home plate umpire Emil Jimenez and then saw Bryan De La Cruz double to center field, scoring three runs. Additionally, known Phillie killer Josh Bell soon followed it up with a double to left field - bringing home yet another run to make the score 4-3 Marlins.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Phils scratched and clawed their way back but only managed a feeble run on an Alec Bohm sac-fly to right field which tied the game up at four.

Next up out of the bullpen was Jeff Hoffman however. Hoffman, who led the Phils pen all season came in and allowed a leadoff home run to Jake Burger on the innings first pitch, quickly making it 5-4. Otto Lopez followed that up with an RBI fielder's choice that let a runner score and brought the score to 6-4.

Finally, Burger singled and brought home Dane Myers to give Miami a 7-4 lead which the Phils could not surmount.

With the loss, the Phils fall to 53-28 on the season and sit 8.0 games up on the Atlanta Braves in the NL East while maintaining the best record in the National League. They’ll now look to tomorrow evening when they take on the Marlins once again in South Philadelphia for a 6:20pm first pitch. You can see the game on NBCSP or listen on 94 WIP and 1680 WTTM
