LONDON, U.K. - It was an ugly morning for Baseball as the Phils fell to the New York Mets 6-5 in the finale of the London Series.
The Phils dropped the second of two games in London this morning at London Stadium as the bullpen struggled to keep the club in the game.
Taijuan Walker trotted out a couple good innings to open the game, getting through five clean. The right hander however ran into some trouble in the sixth when he was lifted with two-on, two-out, and just 79 pitches. Walker saw two inherited runners score off of Gregory Soto, while the lefty allowed a run of his own to score as well - bringing the score to 3-3 at the end of the sixth inning.
Earlier, the Phils offense was able to jump on the Mets quickly as Alec Bohm hit a sacrifice GIDP to make it 1-0 in the first and was followed up by an Edmundo Sosa double and Whit Merrifield single to make it 3-0 Phillies.
After the Phils saw their lead blown, it was the offense and an unlikely hero who once again put them in front. David Dahl, blasted a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh making the score 4-3 Phillies.
They were able to hold that lead for a bit while the likes of Matt Strahm and Jeff Hoffman shut down the Mets lineup. However, as the club trotted Jose Alvarado out for the ninth inning things got ugly. Beginning with a Mark Vientos RBI single to tie it up at four a piece. Not long after Pete Alonso was hit by a pitch to give New York the lead and finally a passed ball off the glove of JT Realmuto made it 6-4 Mets heading to the bottom of the ninth.
Despite loading the bases up and threatening with only one out, the Phillies brought just a run across the dish in the form of an Alec Bohm walk which forced Cristian Pache in, making it 6-5 Mets.
With the loss, the Phillies fell to 45-20 (.692 PCT) on the season. The club will now look ahead to Tuesday night when they take on the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park for a 7:10 PM EDT first pitch as Zack Wheeler takes the mound. You can see the game on NBCSP and TBS or listen on 94 WIP and 1680 WTTM.
